07/23/2025Beautiful Spirit, are you getting the steps in? I know it’s hot! 🌞 If not, here are a few healthy walking tips to help you get started.
You have to find your rhythm. For me I love starting my walk between 6:30 am and 7 am. That way, as it heats up, I’m done. Don’t worry, I have an alternative for after-work hours. Here are your options:
Healthy Walking Tips for Hot Weather
1. Walk Early or Late
- Best times: Before 9 a.m. or after 7 p.m.
- Temperatures are lower, sun is less intense, and you’ll avoid peak UV exposure.
2. Use Indoor Spaces
- Walk inside malls, gyms, or large department stores.
- Consider indoor tracks or community centers if available.
- A great time to multitask and get steps in without the heat.
3. Hydrate Smart
- Drink water before, during, and after walking.
- Consider carrying a small refillable bottle with you.
- Add electrolytes if walking for long durations or sweating heavily.
4. Dress for the Heat
- Light-colored, loose-fitting, moisture-wicking clothes.
- Wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and SPF 30+ sunscreen.
5. Try “Step Snacks” Indoors
- Break up steps throughout the day:
- 5–10 minutes every hour inside your home.
- March in place during commercials or calls.
6. Use a Step Goal App or Fitness Tracker
- Set mini-goals or challenges to keep motivated indoors.
- Apps like Pacer, Fitbit, Apple Health or Samsung Health can track your steps.
7. Dance, Step, or March
- Follow a YouTube walking workout or dance video.
8. Stair Stepping
- If safe, walk stairs inside your home or apartment building in short intervals.
This information wasn’t too bad, was it? Here’s a disclaimer. If you’re under doctor’s orders, adhere to them.
That’s it for now!
